Krishna, a name that means "all-attractive," is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is the original, unborn, supreme controller of all that be, the ultimate source of all creations, and the cause of all causes.
As the supreme friend of all living beings, He invites us to reawaken our eternal, loving relationship with Him through the practice of bhakti-yoga, the yoga of devotion.
Janmashtami is the joyous celebration of Lord Krishna's divine appearance in this world. Devotees celebrate through kirtan (congregational chanting), listening to Krishna-katha (talks about His pastimes), and a grand abhiṣek (bathing ceremony of the Deity).
The festival culminates in a midnight ārati (worship ceremony) followed by a sumptuous prasādam feast (sanctified vegetarian food offered to the Lord).
“One who knows the transcendental nature of My appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode, O Arjuna.”— Bhagavad-gītā 4.9Buy Krishna Book by Śrīla Prabhupāda
